More information: The Ag Showcase, which dates to 1990, gives students a chance to talk to and network with company representatives from throughout the ag industry. It’s open to all students — not just ag students — underscoring the demand in agriculture for majors that include engineering and computer science.

“We describe it as ‘more than a career fair’ in the sense that it’s more of an experience to expose students to how expansive agriculture can be and the opportunities to be had in it,” said Tyler Wilkerson, an agricultural science student.

Cal Poly students also will benefit to the tune of some $30,000 in scholarships from Ag Showcase sponsors. Companies attend because of Cal Poly’s reputation as one of the best agriculture programs in the nation and a continual producer of leaders for the agricultural industry. Company representatives get the opportunity to showcase their firms to Cal Poly students who have proved over the decades to be Day-One-ready employees.

The event includes a Jan. 15 Industry Social at the Madonna Inn that gives industry folks and students a chance to mingle in a low-key social setting. That event is open to juniors and seniors.
