Cyrus Ramezani, Ph.D.

Cyrus RamezaniDr. Ramezani received his PhD in Agricultural and Resources Economics and his MS in Financial Economics from University of California at Berkeley. He began his career at Cal Poly in Fall of 1999 as a finance faculty at the Orfalea College of Business (OCOB). Prior to coming to Cal Poly he served as a faculty at the University of Wisconsin (Madison). He has also taught at the University of Cambridge  (UK), Haas School of Business (UC Berkeley), and other institutions. His research is focused in the areas of asset valuation (real assets, equity, bond, and options), corporate finance (valuation of intangible assets including patents and trademarks, optimal cash holding strategies, application of Real Option methodology to the valuation of real investment projects), risk management and insurance (valuation of agricultural insurance products, valuation of earthquake insurance and reinsurance contacts), and application of statistical methods to financial and economic data.

Dr. Ramezani served as the Chair of the Finance Area (2006-15). He has also served on a variety of University and college committees. Dr. Ramezani’s teaching spans several areas of business and finance, at both the undergraduate and graduate level. He has taught courses in agricultural risk management, corporate finance, fixed income securities, investments, options and futures, personal financial planning, and portfolio management. Dr. Ramezani has served as consultant to numerous corporations, has undertaken a number of funded projects for government agencies, and has been an expert witness onseveral cases involving business and patent litigation.

Dr. Ramezani’s research has been published in academic and practitioner journals including American Journal of Agricultural Economics, Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, Journal of Consumer Affairs, Journal of Risk, Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Financial Analysts Journal, Journal of Financial Engineering, Annals of Finance, Annals of Financial Economics, Institutional Investor Journal, Journal of Economic Integration, and other outlets. Dr. Ramezani’s research has been presented in a variety of academic and industry conferences. His research has also been featured in business press, including the Forbes magazine.
