Ag Biz Buzz - Spring 2026

Letter from the Department Head

For generations, Cal Poly’s Agricultural Business Department (AGB) has prepared students to become leaders, innovators and problem-solvers in California agriculture and beyond. Through exceptional teaching, hands-on learning experiences and impactful research, we are committed to developing graduates with the technical expertise, critical thinking abilities and leadership skills needed to thrive in an increasingly complex and dynamic industry.

In this third edition of AgBizBuzz, we are proud to showcase the impact of that commitment.  In recent years, AGB has expanded and reinvested in a variety of Learn by Doing opportunities that enrich the student experience. These efforts include supporting student teams and individuals competing at regional and national competitions, launching industry engagement initiatives that connect students with employers and alumni through trade shows and professional events, and developing interdisciplinary coursework that brings business and economic perspectives to the creation of innovative food and agricultural products.

While we are proud of these initial accomplishments, there is even greater potential ahead as we expand on these Learn by Doing initiatives, but financial support to expand on these achievements is critical for future success.

Today, we invite you to help shape the next chapter of AGB’s success. Your support directly expands opportunities for students and ensures that future generations of Agricultural Business students have access to the resources, experiences and networks that will prepare them to lead.

Every gift, regardless of size, represents an investment in our students and in the future of California agriculture. Together, we can continue building a department that develops talented graduates who are ready to make a meaningful impact on the industries and communities they serve.

Thank you for your continued support of AGB, our students, our faculty and the future of agriculture.

Sincerely,

Bryan Lohmar, Ph.D.
Professor and AGB Department Head
